Alcohol-Associated Cancer Deaths Surge in the U.S.
According to a forthcoming study presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology conference, alcohol-related cancer deaths in the U.S. have doubled from 11,896 in 1990 to 23,207 in 2021, particularly affecting men and those aged 55 and older. The study highlights alcohol’s carcinogenic potential and its association with various cancers, including liver, breast, and colorectal, while emphasizing the need for public health policies to raise awareness about these risks. Researchers noted that even low to moderate alcohol consumption can elevate cancer risk, especially in individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
