American David Barnes’ appeal for release from a Russian detention center was denied, leading to increased concerns for his future among family and friends in Alabama. A Moscow judge extended his sentence by six months and ordered psychiatric treatment, despite his attorney arguing the case lacked jurisdiction. Convicted of abusing his sons based on allegations from his ex-wife, Barnes, now serving the longest sentence for an American in Russia, hopes for a U.S. prisoner exchange, while the State Department monitors his situation.
