El Salvador government rejects lawmakers’ request to visit Abrego Garcia

The government of El Salvador has denied a request from four Democratic lawmakers, including Florida Rep. Maxwell Frost, to visit Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was wrongly deported despite a court order prohibiting his deportation due to fears of persecution. Abrego Garcia, who had been living in Maryland, was sent to a Salvadoran mega-prison after the Trump administration claimed he was affiliated with the MS-13 gang, a claim his family disputes. While a U.S. State Department official reported that he is in good health, the lawmakers remain determined to advocate for him and have scheduled further meetings.
