Trump signs executive order to expand ‘clean’ coal, but there’s no such thing

President Donald Trump signed an executive order to expand coal mining and usage in the U.S., promoting “beautiful, clean coal.” The order directs agencies to facilitate coal leases on public lands and research coal’s potential for powering artificial intelligence data centers. Despite efforts to promote coal, cleaner alternatives like natural gas and renewables have been replacing coal-fired electricity generation in recent years.
