Steelers sign former Jets wide receiver

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed wide receiver Isaiah Winstead, a standout from the United Football League (UFL). Winstead, who previously played for East Carolina University, had an impressive 2022 season with the Pirates, recording 88 receptions for 1,085 yards and six touchdowns. In the 2026 UFL season, he caught 36 passes for four touchdowns while playing with the Louisville Kings. Before joining the Steelers, Winstead was part of the New York Jets during the 2024 preseason, where he was a teammate of Aaron Rodgers. The Steelers recently made roster adjustments, releasing wide receiver A.T. Perry and subsequently cutting Colton Dowell, leaving Winstead vying for a practice squad position.

Why It Matters

Isaiah Winstead’s signing reflects the Steelers’ ongoing efforts to strengthen their wide receiver lineup, which has seen multiple changes recently. Winstead has yet to play in a regular-season NFL game, making this an important opportunity for him to establish himself in the league. The Steelers’ recent roster moves indicate a focus on finding the right combinations to enhance their offensive capabilities as the season progresses. Winstead’s prior performance in college and the UFL highlights his potential, which the Steelers may seek to harness as they refine their roster.
