Statement By the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Women in Africa on the Occasion of the International Women’s Day

On International Women’s Day 2025, the ACHPR and SRRWA mark the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration, celebrating progress in African women’s political representation, education, economic empowerment, and legal reforms. Despite advancements, challenges like gender-based violence, harmful practices, and economic inequality persist, necessitating stronger implementation of laws and societal shifts to ensure the full realization of gender equality and women’s empowerment in Africa.
