The series is based on Marvel’s "noir" line, which reinterprets characters during the Great Depression, and Cage’s character is distinct from Peter Parker. The first teaser is available in both black and white and color, with Cage describing his performance as influenced by Humphrey Bogart and Bugs Bunny. The character previously appeared in animated films and will return in Beyond the Spider-Verse.
