Nearly 1.3 million members of the security forces and more than 26,500 internally displaced people are eligible to vote ahead of Tuesday’s polls.

Iraq’s parliamentary elections are underway, with early voting for 1.3 million security forces members and over 26,500 internally displaced people. Approximately 21 million Iraqis can vote on Tuesday, with 7,750 candidates vying for 329 seats. Concerns about corruption and low voter turnout persist, as influential Shia leader Moqtada Sadr calls for a boycott. Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani aims for a second term in a system traditionally led by Shia Muslims.
