South Sudan orders temporary ban on social media over violence in neighboring Sudan

South Sudanese authorities have ordered a 30-day block on social media access to prevent the dissemination of graphic content related to violence against South Sudanese in Sudan, with a potential extension to 90 days, effective from midnight Thursday. The National Communication Authority cited public safety concerns and local law violations as reasons for the ban, sparked by footage showing killings of South Sudanese in Gezira state. The conflict in Sudan, marked by brutal killings and displacement, has led to a dusk-to-dawn curfew and condemnation from the African Union Commission.
