South Korea blocks downloads of DeepSeek from local app stores

South Korean officials have temporarily restricted the download of DeepSeek’s app in the country, pending an evaluation of how the Chinese company handles user data. The Personal Information Protection Commission found issues with DeepSeek’s data handling practices, including transferring user data to ByteDance. DeepSeek is collaborating with Korean authorities to comply with privacy laws after facing restrictions in South Korea, Australia, Italy, and Taiwan due to security concerns.
