Deborah Ann Badeau, 61, transitioned from living in a tent for six years to a micro-unit in the Somerset ACRES housing program in Saint John, which offers 18 small apartments for the homeless. After escaping an abusive relationship and facing homelessness, she found hope and stability in her new home, which provides essential services and support for residents. Managed by Fresh Start Services, the program focuses on helping individuals develop tenancy skills while fostering a sense of community. Despite initial community concerns, the project has seen success, with some residents moving on to independent living.
