Snapchat to put ads next to chats with friends

Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel announced that the company will be introducing “Sponsored Snaps” next to chat threads from friends, marking the first time ads will be displayed in the main Chat tab. These sponsored messages from brands will be positioned as unread messages, appearing above messages from contacts until they are interacted with. Spiegel also mentioned in an employee memo that this new advertising feature will be implemented while adhering to certain guidelines.
