Sister of Sicilian mafia’s ‘last godfather’ freed from prison

Patrizia Messina Denaro, sister of notorious Sicilian Mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro, has been released from prison, raising concerns she may assume control of his clan. Matteo, who was Italy’s most wanted fugitive until his arrest in January 2023, was convicted of numerous murders and was known for maintaining communication with his family through coded messages during his 30 years on the run.
