TD Matt Carthy and TD Pauline Tully have been selected as candidates for Sinn Féin in the upcoming general election, with Monaghan Cllr Cathy Bennett expected to be chosen in a second convention. Cllr Bennett, the frontrunner, is currently the Cathaoirleach of Monaghan Municipal District and played a key role in proposing Mr Carthy as a candidate. The party is aiming to secure a third seat in the Cavan Monaghan constituency, with the departure of Fine Gael’s Heather Humphreys seen as a potential advantage.
