Shark bites 61-year-old Maui surfer, completely severing his leg below the knee

A 61-year-old surfer in Maui was bitten by a shark, severing his leg below the knee at Waiehu Beach Park. Police officers used tourniquets to control bleeding before the man was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition. Officials closed the beach park and issued a warning to stay out of the water for a mile in each direction until at least noon Saturday, with patrols and drone surveillance in place to monitor the area.
