Cookes, currently serving a prison sentence for social welfare fraud, posed as a terminally ill writer to win awards and secure Arts Council grants. Convicted previously in Ireland and Britain for various fraud and theft charges, including a fake Lapland trip and posing as a child psychologist, Cookes has a history of deception and criminal activity.
