Sen. Angus King opposes ICE funding in spending package

Independent Sen. Angus King of Maine stated he will not support a government funding package that includes funding for ICE, citing recent immigration enforcement actions in his state. King emphasized the need to avoid a government shutdown, calling for Senate Majority Leader John Thune to separate the DHS funding from other bills to facilitate negotiations. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer indicated that Democrats will not support any funding package that includes funds for the Department of Homeland Security. Congress has until January 30 to pass the remaining appropriations bills to prevent a partial government shutdown.
