A seaplane operated by Kenmore Air crashed in Shallow Bay near Sucia Island in the Puget Sound area north of Seattle on Thursday evening, resulting in a fire shortly after the incident. The plane, carrying ten passengers and a pilot, went down around 5:15 p.m. local time, but all 11 people on board survived. The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office reported that while everyone was rescued from the water, there were multiple injuries, including one individual in critical condition, with no fatalities reported. First responders, including the Coast Guard and local emergency services, were on the scene, and three airlift ambulances were dispatched. Eyewitness footage captured the plane wobbling in the air before crashing and igniting.

Why It Matters

Seaplane accidents, while relatively rare, can lead to significant risks due to the nature of aviation and water landings. The Puget Sound region has a history of seaplane operations, with Kenmore Air being a prominent carrier in the area, offering scenic flights and transport services. The incident underscores the importance of safety measures in aviation, particularly in challenging environments. Historical data indicates that while aviation has improved in safety standards over the years, any crash still poses potential risks to passengers and emergency responders involved in rescue efforts.
