A jury found former Sangamon County deputy Sean Grayson guilty of second-degree murder in the fatal police shooting of Sonya Massey, an unarmed Black woman who called for help in July 2024. Grayson, initially facing three counts of first-degree murder, was acquitted on those charges; however, the jury deliberated on whether his actions were reasonable in self-defense before reaching a verdict.
