Lucy Everlyn Atim, a former child rights activist, returned to Uganda to find her cherished shea tree gone, a victim of deforestation for charcoal production. With Uganda losing around 122,000 hectares of forest annually, Atim founded the Moyao Africa Initiative to convert shea waste into fuel briquettes, providing an alternative energy source while empowering over 1,200 women. The initiative also promotes environmental restoration through tree planting and educational clubs in schools.
