Sam Altman’s company aims to prevent ticket scalping with eye-scanning technology

A new tool called Concert Kit aims to help musicians combat ticket scalping bots by leveraging an updated verification system known as World ID. This system creates a unique “proof of human” signature using biometric data, allowing users to authenticate themselves without sharing personal information. With Concert Kit, artists can reserve tickets exclusively for verified users, similar to pre-sale events, reducing the likelihood of bots purchasing tickets. Bruno Mars is set to implement this system during his upcoming world tour, while other artists can begin using Concert Kit immediately. Additionally, World ID is being integrated into various platforms, including Tinder for profile verification and Zoom and DocuSign for identity verification in professional settings.

Why It Matters

Concert Kit represents a significant step in addressing the pervasive issue of ticket scalping, which has long frustrated concertgoers and artists alike. The introduction of a biometric verification system like World ID could help secure ticket sales against automated bots that have undermined fair access to live events. Historically, ticket scalping has led to inflated prices and limited availability for genuine fans. By implementing these measures, the concert industry may improve the ticket purchasing experience and help ensure that real fans have a better chance of securing tickets.
