Cabinet Drops Māori Name for School Lunches Program

The New Zealand Government has renamed its school lunches programme, dropping the original te reo Māori title “Ka Ora, Ka Ako” in favor of “Healthy School Lunches.” This decision, made in October 2022, was revealed through Cabinet papers obtained by Newstalk ZB. Associate Education Minister David Seymour stated that the change aims to ensure clarity and understanding for everyone involved. The programme was initially launched in 2020.
