Putin’s visit is the first to the region since Russia claimed its forces had ejected Ukrainian troops in late April.
President Vladimir Putin visited Kursk for the first time since Russian forces claimed to have ousted Ukrainian troops in April, following Ukraine’s significant incursion in August 2024. During his visit, he met with volunteer organizations and inspected a local nuclear power plant. Concurrently, Ukraine reported missile attacks resulting in casualties and drone strikes targeting Russian military sites, amidst ongoing diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire in the conflict that has continued for over three years.
