Putin is set to visit China to strengthen the partnership with President Xi Jinping, focusing on economic and trade cooperation. The visit commemorates the 25th anniversary of a key Moscow-Beijing agreement. This comes after US President Trump’s recent trip to China, where little progress was made on key issues. Despite China’s official neutrality in the Russia-Ukraine war, Xi’s alliance with Putin has deepened, with close political and economic ties between the two countries.
Why It Matters
The meeting between Putin and Xi signifies a strengthening of the strategic partnership between Russia and China, amid tensions with the US. The deepening economic and political cooperation between the two countries could have significant implications for global dynamics, especially in light of their alliance in the face of Western sanctions against Russia. This partnership could potentially challenge the traditional dominance of Western powers in international relations.
