Russian Army Division Hit by Desertions of ‘Whole Regiment’: Report

An “entire regiment” of over 1,000 soldiers, including 26 junior officers, a major, and two lieutenant colonels, deserted the 20th Guards Motor Rifle Division in Volgograd amid escalating tensions in the Russia-Ukraine war. Moscow continues to suffer high casualties, with Kyiv reporting over 700,000 dead and wounded, and a daily average of 1,500 casualties. The soldiers who deserted faced a maximum punishment of 15 years in prison, with over 11,700 cases of unauthorized abandonment reaching military courts since February 2022.
