U.S. and Russia end first high-level talks since 2022 as Ukraine peace negotiations in balance

Russian and U.S. officials held their first formal meeting in years to discuss ending the war in Ukraine, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov leading the talks in Saudi Arabia. Lavrov was accompanied by Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov, and both sides agreed to begin negotiations on Ukraine soon. Despite the meeting being a significant step forward, State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce emphasized that more action is needed for lasting peace.
