‘Do you want to show strength here?’: Russia’s ads recruiting Chinese mercenaries

Over 150 Chinese nationals are reportedly fighting for Russia in Ukraine, recruited through videos on social media platforms. The videos range from slick Russian propaganda to influencer-style advertisements, all promoting the benefits of becoming a Chinese mercenary for Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Moscow of trying to involve China in the conflict, with two captured Chinese nationals in Donetsk and at least 155 others identified as members of Russia’s armed forces.
