Three lawyers who defended the late opposition leader Alexey Navalny have been sentenced to several years in prison by a Russian court in Petushki, east of Moscow, for transmitting Navalny’s messages from prison. The lawyers were accused of involvement with extremist groups linked to Navalny’s organizations, which were deemed extremist in 2021. Navalny, a critic of President Putin, died under unclear circumstances in a prison colony in February 2024, leading to increased pressure on his associates and lawyers by Russian authorities.
