Japanese TV network to open independent probe into alleged sexual misconduct by host

Fuji Television in Japan plans to conduct an independent investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against popular TV host Masahiro Nakai, linked to allegations of sexual assault at a party organized by a Fuji TV staff member. The scandal has negatively impacted the company’s share price, prompting an apology from Fuji TV President Koichi Minato and an external panel investigation into company officials, including himself. Nakai, a former member of the SMAP boy band, denied using violence and reached a settlement with a woman over the incident, leading to criticism from major shareholder Rising Sun Management and suspensions of programs hosted by Nakai on Japanese TV networks.
