Russia targets Ukrainian energy infrastructure on Christmas Day

Russia launched a missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, targeting a thermal power plant and causing Ukrainians to seek shelter in metro stations on Christmas morning. The strikes included 78 missiles and 106 drones, with Ukraine’s air force intercepting many of them. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy criticized Putin for the timing of the attack, calling it inhumane. In Russia, one person died and three were wounded after a drone explosion at a shopping mall. The attack disrupted heating in residential buildings and left 500,000 people without heat in Ukraine. Multiple missiles targeted eastern regions of the country.
