Secretary of State Marco Rubio, accompanied by U.S. National Security Advisor Michael Waltz and U.S. special envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh ahead of U.S.-Russia talks in Saudi Arabia aimed at ending the Ukraine war. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed eagerness to mend relations with the U.S., with the talks focused on U.S.-Russian relations, potential Ukrainian settlement talks, and organizing a meeting between the two presidents. Despite Ukraine’s absence from the negotiations, the goal is to assess Russia’s commitment to peace and determine the feasibility of detailed negotiations moving forward.
