Rome court rules offshore detention of migrants in Albania illegal – POLITICO

Italian judges ruled that four migrants identified for transfer to Albanian centers under a deal between Italy and Albania had to be sent back due to being minors or having health conditions. Following a European Court of Justice ruling that migrants’ countries of origin cannot be designated as safe, the remaining 12 migrants are also likely to be returned to Italy. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni praised Italy’s immigration policy model, while the League party criticized the court’s decision, and rights groups applauded the judges for upholding the rule of law.
