In the recent election in Romania, the center-left Social Democratic Party (PSD) led by Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu secured about a quarter of the vote, positioning them as the front-runners ahead of the far-right Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR). Ciolacu sees this as a mandate for the country to continue its pro-EU stance while protecting national values. The presidential race will see liberal Elena Lasconi of the Save Romania Union (USR) facing off against a challenger in the second round, as both the PSD and PNL did not qualify.
