Romania’s president has nominated current Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu to lead a new pro-European coalition government in an effort to resolve a political crisis following the annulment of a presidential election. The coalition, which includes the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and National Liberal Party (PNL), aims to regain citizens’ trust amid anti-establishment sentiment and far-right nationalist gains in parliament. The new government will need approval from lawmakers and will also feature a common pro-European candidate in the presidential rerun, following allegations of electoral violations and Russian interference.
