Rocky, a black bear rescued from abuse in Pakistan’s Punjab province after being involved in 35 fights, has been relocated to Islamabad for medical treatment by a welfare organization. Veterinarians from Four Paws operated on the 7-year-old bear, removing his chain and nose ring, treating his fractured jaw and wounds from fights and dog bites. Despite bear fighting being illegal in Pakistan, it still occurs in some areas, highlighting ongoing animal welfare issues in the country, including recent tragedies involving elephants and neglected bears.
