A group of boaters was rescued off Wellington’s South Coast after becoming stranded in gale force winds and rough seas. The emergency arose when the boat’s skipper, the only person capable of operating the vessel, went scuba diving while the others faced winds up to 88 km/h and waves reaching 2 meters. Police called for assistance from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and Wellington’s Volunteer Coastguard to ensure the safety of all involved.
