RFK Jr. told Congress no working scientists were fired, but these top NIH brain scientists are still facing job cuts

Some top brain scientists at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) received layoff notices last month, contradicting Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s claim that no working scientists had been cut. Among those affected is Richard Youle, a distinguished investigator recognized for his Parkinson’s research. Despite assurances from NIH leadership about reversing the layoffs, the notices remain in effect, impacting around 100 staff members, including ten senior investigators, leading to concerns over the future of their careers and ongoing research.
