Reynders defeated in race to lead Council of Europe – POLITICO

Belgium’s Foreign Minister Didier Reynders has been defeated in the race to lead the Council of Europe, losing to Croatian Foreign Minister Marija Pejčinović Burić. Reynders, who had been considered a frontrunner for the position, faced tough competition from Burić, who ultimately secured the majority of votes from the Council’s parliamentary assembly. The loss is a setback for Reynders, who had been hoping to secure the prestigious role at the helm of the international organization.
