Researchers used AI to build groundbreaking nanomaterials lighter and stronger than titanium
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Researchers at the University of Toronto have utilized machine learning to create nanomaterials blending carbon steel’s strength with Styrofoam’s lightness, potentially revolutionizing industries like automotive and aerospace. The team led by Professor Tobin Filleter developed nanomaterials with exceptional strength and weight by using tiny building blocks and a multi-objective Bayesian optimization algorithm. These optimized nanolattices, five times stronger than titanium, offer vast applications in aerospace, with plans to scale up and explore new matrices for even lighter yet robust materials.
