Scientists have traced a 3,000-light-year cosmic jet from the supermassive black hole M87 to its likely source, aided by enhanced data from the Event Horizon Telescope. Published in “Astronomy & Astrophysics,” this study enhances understanding of how black holes launch jets at nearly light speed. M87, located 55 light years away, is 6.5 billion times the sun’s mass and actively ejects charged particles. The findings pave the way for connecting theoretical jet-launching ideas with direct observations and call for further studies for confirmation.
