Remote Workers at Global Affairs Required to Relocate to Capital
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Public servants at Global Affairs Canada (GAC) who have been teleworking full-time are now required to relocate to the National Capital Region, leading some to consider resigning due to personal circumstances. Employees claim they were promised remote work during hiring, with union representatives expressing disappointment over the situation, labeling it a betrayal. GAC states that telework agreements are separate from official job offers, and current rules allow remote work for those living over 125 kilometers away under certain conditions. The Treasury Board Secretariat’s interim rule permitting full-time telework remains in effect until March 2027, but criteria for renewal have not been specified.
