Fourteen members of the religious sect ‘The Saints’ were found guilty of manslaughter for denying insulin to eight-year-old Elizabeth Rose Struhs, leading to her death from untreated type-1 diabetes. Despite their belief in the healing power of God, Elizabeth’s parents and other sect members were convicted after maintaining a vigil of prayer around her bed and seeking divine intervention even after she stopped breathing. The court heard that Elizabeth had been previously hospitalized and was near death due to her condition, with all 14 members facing a potential maximum sentence of life in prison.
