French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou urged Algeria to pardon imprisoned writer Boualem Sansal after an Algerian court upheld his five-year sentence for undermining national unity. Sansal, a dual French-Algerian citizen and critic of both Algeria’s government and Islamism, has been incarcerated since November and is reportedly suffering from prostate cancer.
