The Real ID deadline is set for May 7, requiring Americans over 18 who fly domestically or visit certain federal facilities to obtain a federally compliant ID. Currently, 30 states are less than 70% compliant, with New Jersey at just 17%. Real IDs, identifiable by a black or gold star, are more secure than standard licenses, and some states offer Enhanced IDs, which also facilitate travel to Canada and Mexico; individuals without a Real ID may still fly but should arrive at the airport three hours early for security.
