Nova Scotia’s police watchdog, the Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT), is investigating a shooting involving the RCMP that led to the death of a man from the Sipekne’katik First Nation on Tuesday morning. The incident began with a disturbance call about a man with a firearm, prompting an emergency alert urging residents to seek shelter. Officers located the man, deployed a spike belt to deflate his tires, and after attempting non-lethal options, fired multiple shots, resulting in his death at the scene. Initially, the RCMP reported that the man was taken into custody.
