On Thanksgiving, the ferry employees worked hard to ensure that passengers like the speaker could spend time with their loved ones, such as their father who survived cancer and is now in remission. The employees’ dedication and efforts made it possible for the speaker to have a meaningful holiday with their family. Despite wanting to express their gratitude in person, the speaker acknowledges the employees’ commitment to their work and is thankful for the opportunity to be with their father.
