Rameswaram fishermen withdraw stir, resume fishing in the Palk Bay

Fishermen in Rameswaram abstained from work for 10 days after 17 fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on September 29. They staged a day-long fast demanding their release, which was secured after talks between the Union External Affairs Minister and Sri Lankan authorities. The fishermen resumed work on October 12, thanking the government for their intervention and urging for a permanent solution to avoid future arrests.
