For the first time in 30 years, rail fares in England will be frozen to alleviate the financial burden on commuters, as announced by Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander. This freeze will save commuters over £300 annually on expensive routes, benefitting more than a billion journeys. The decision comes after years of fare increases, with campaigners welcoming the move as essential for affordability and environmental benefits. The freeze applies to all regulated fares, including season and peak return tickets.
