A former council manager, Simon Mutonhori, has faced a setback in his long-running court case against the Wairoa District Council, where he was dismissed in August 2022 after expressing frustration over “stupid laws” and feeling demeaned by a junior colleague’s request for a tax form. Mutonhori, who later worked for the Mt Isa City Council in Queensland before being dismissed again, is seeking to have his termination deemed unjustified by the Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court.
