Local whisky gains popularity in Quebec as U.S. brands are unavailable

The Distillerie de Montréal is experiencing a surge in demand for its whisky, with production and sales more than doubling recently. The distillery’s honey whisky liqueur, Abeille, has become a top-selling product, benefiting from increased local consumption after the Quebec government’s decision to limit American alcohol imports. Sales of locally produced whisky rose by 114 percent between March 2025 and January 2026, as consumers shift toward supporting Quebec products in a less competitive market.
